Application Methods/Performance:

Attic

Installation Instructions

Unroll the FoilBuild as you work, and cut it to suitable lengths. Allow for proper ventilation - see below. Staple FoilBuild to the undersides of exposed rafters or between the trusses. Better ventilation in the attic increases comfort and helps the materials of your home last longer. Be sure not to block ventilation paths when you install FoilBuild.

Crawl Space: RValue Est. 16.8

Installation Instructions

Check the crawl space to determine distance between floor joists- 16" or 24" on-center. Locate water pipes and heating ducts which hang below the floor joists. They will need to be insulated. FoilBuild Pipe Wrap and Duct Insulation are designed specifically for this use. You do not need to wrap water pipes or duct work that fall between floor joists. FoilBuild installed below will provide adequate insulating without wrapping them. Install starting at one end of the house and face staple FoilBuild to the bottom of the floor joist. Leave enough length so the insulation can be pulled up to the band board and stapled. On the next run, face staple to the bottom of the floor joist. Overlap tabs and seal with our Foil Tape to create a vapor barrier. At the ends, staple up to the sub-floor or band board.
Walls- Post Frame: RValue Est. 19.56

Installation Instructions

When main supports are installed, you may staple FoilBuild 48" Insulation horizontally to the support beams. Overlap and tape seams and tape with our Foil Tape. Be careful to close gaps in the seams as they will cause air infiltration, which may cause condensation.

Walls with masonry, as shown: RValue Est. 3.7 or better

Metal Building Roof

Installation Instructions

Install 1" x 2"  wood furring strips on the bottom of and perpendicular to the Z purlins on 24" centers. Use sheet metal screws to secure the furring strips to the Z purlins. Overlap and tape furring strips together and tape. Staple tape for reinforcement. Use 48" wide FoilBuild Insulation and staple to furring strips. You will not need to cut the FoilBuild Insulation to an exact size before installing, since the insulation is below the Z purlins. Overlap and tape seams and tape together using Foil Tape. Gaps will cause air infiltration which may cause condensation. Prior to installation of FoilBuild, inspect the roof area for clutter - water sprinkler systems, power lines and lights. Sprinkler systems are especially important. All water pipes must be below the insulation to prevent the possibility of freezing in the winter. In many instances, the FoilBuild must be installed up near the roof deck.

Concrete Slabs: RValue Est. 1.1

Installation Instructions

Unroll FoilBuild Concrete Slab Insulation over the sand or gravel, clear poly side facing up. Overlap and tape the seams. Seal the seams with 3" wide Poly Tape or duct tape. All tape should be applied firmly while assuring good adhesion. Install radiant heating then pour concrete over the clear poly as usual. Tip:  Adding 1" of sand over the FoilBuild Concrete Slab Insulation will facilitate water drainage and shorten the actual curing time.
