A large pharmacy retailer with locations in several states must maintain room temperature (CRT- Controlled Room Temperature) and 5 Celsius for various medicines including capsules and pills, while shipping in very hot and/or cold climates from distribution centers to their retail pharmacies using reusable bins in a "closed loop" system.The regulatory bodies indicate that these goods must remain at temperatures between 15 and 25C and 5C respectively, during storage and transport.
Proposal
Pharmacy retailer approached IPC with the desire to procure a custom box liner that could be used to protect several sizes of bins they currently use to package and transport various pharmaceutical products from distribution centers to retail stores using their own fleet of trucks. Bins and liners need to be reusable and nestable for efficient warehousing and shipping back to distribution centers.IPC Recommendation
IPC recommended its GreenLiner Insulated Box Liner, custom produced to fit the client's bins. The liner would provide the same extreme protection as traditional GreenLiner box liners against the inherent elevated temperature spikes and dips experienced during transport. GreenLiner Box Liners are also resilient enough for multiple re-use, making them ideal for the client. IPC offered custom size liner for client's bin with no tooling cost, wherein non is required to produce GreenLiner Box Liners.Testing
After preliminary data indicated positive results, IPC recommended that the company conduct an internal study using GreenLiner Bin Liners to protect its products while shipping their current routes. Subsequently, pharmaceutical company conducted a trial with several test shipments using the liners.Conclusion & Results
Pharmacy retailer determined that GreenLiner bin liners provided a suitable temperature differential between extreme ambient temperatures and the inside of the bins.This resulted in protection that was more than adequate and ensured that goods would arrive in saleable condition while satisfying the regulatory bodies.
Today, the company regularly uses GreenLiner bin liners in their closed loop distribution process.
